Latest News - September 2008

The Committee have decided to go ahead with the Fortieth Season of the Society, with the usual programme of nine films. As always the selection of films is partly controlled by availability, but the criterion that they should represent the best in world cinema, with an emphasis on those which have not been readily available in the commercial cinemas, has remained at the forefront of selection.

This decision to continue with a 2008/9 season was taken even though we still have no Chairman and there does not appear to be any prospect of new members wanting to join the Committee. In view of this, the future of the Society will be an important item of business at the AGM due to be held at the film evening on 1 October. Nominations of members who would be willing to serve on the Committee should be made before that date.

HISTORY:

John White has compiled a listing, in a variety of formats, of all the films shown by the Society since January 1970 with their audience scores where appropriate. Anyone who would like to consult these should contact John.
